Stage 1 of the Wagga Wagga Destination Management Plan complete

5 December 2023

Thank you to all of the residents and businesses that provided input on the draft Wagga Wagga Destination Management Plan via the business and community survey and stakeholder workshops.

In total, we received over 170 survey responses, just over 80 contributions to the interactive map and engaged with over 75 participants at stakeholder workshop sessions.

Your feedback is vital in creating a strategic, holistic and collaborative framework for our city's visitor economy.

Industry workshop with local tourism business community

Tell us your ideas: a recent industry engagement session with Wagga Wagga + Surrounds tourism businesses and organisations.

Development of the draft Wagga Wagga Destination Management Plan is now underway. Council, along with Urban Enterprise (external consultancy firm) are now analysing the rich conversations and input received across the LGA and will develop a background paper summarising key preliminary findings. We will provide further updates to wider industry and community as these become available.

In meantime, Wagga Wagga City Council will be conducting a youth focus group to better understand the needs and aspirations of young people aged 16 to 24 living in the Wagga Wagga LGA. The aim is to capture their thoughts and ideas on the future of Wagga Wagga as a tourism destination. Participation in this focus group will be incentivised with a $50 VISA gift card, a free meal and snacks and the chance to WIN a variety of local gift vouchers throughout the day. Expressions of interest are open until 11.59 Sunday 7 January, 2024.

As well, a visitor focus group is being undertaken by Urban Enterprise (external consultancy firm) where genuine visitors to Wagga Wagga will be asked about their experience in the region, motivations for visiting and what they'd like to see in the future. Expressions of interest for this opportunity have closed.

There will be plenty of other opportunities to contribute to this ten-year plan for tourism in Wagga Wagga. Be sure to keep an eye out on the Wagga Wagga Destination Management Plan engagement page for future opportunities.
