Upgrade reaches halfway mark

11 October 2023

The Lord Baden Powell Drive upgrade project has reached a key milestone, with approximately 50% of the project now complete.

Key activities completed to date include:

  • approved vegetation clearance to maximise visibility, benefiting both approaching vehicles and pedestrians near refuge islands (yet to be constructed)
  • the successful reconstruction of the Kurrajong carpark, coupled with relocation of its entrance, enhancing overall safety for motorists
  • a redesigned intersection at Lord Baden Powell Drive and the Museum of the Riverina access lane, promoting safer vehicle movements
  • excavation of a large amount of rock to allow for the installation of stormwater pipes
  • extensive enhancements to the stormwater management system, ensuring improved drainage and flood resilience.

Work activities over the remainder of the project include importing and laying road base, installing kerbs and gutters on both sides of the road, sealing the road surface and installing two pedestrian refuge islands.

Weather permitting, the upgrade is currently expected to be completed in early December 2023.
