Significant progress on our shared path network
19 December 2025
As works near completion on two new links in Wagga Wagga City Council’s Active Travel Plan (ATP) project, residents and visitors are being encouraged to get out and enjoy the expansive network of shared pathways across our city over summer.
The Active Travel network features more than 50 kilometres of shared paths linking the outlying suburbs with the city centre.
Manager City Growth & Regional Assets Ben Creighton says “it is a great time of year for people to hop on their bikes or to take a walk or run along the completed links in the extensive network.
“There are some sections, particularly around Lake Albert or along the Eastern Levee link, which take you through a beautiful part of the city. Stop by the Riverside playground or Wagga Beach, or pop into one of the great cafés we have in the area.”
There has been significant progress on the ATP project in 2025, with new sections of shared path constructed on several key links, and the building of a new shared path link along the northern end of Kooringal Road.
“We’ve made a lot of progress this year, with work getting underway on the Stage 3 Kooringal Road Link, from the Exhibition Centre to the Sturt Highway, in July,” Mr Creighton said.
“A key part of this project involved the installation of a 26-metre long steel footbridge over Marshalls Creek in September, improving safety for people walking and cycling in the area.
“The concrete path now reaches from the Exhibition Centre carpark to the entry to the service station just north of Forge Street.
“While there are still minor line marking and signage work to be installed, the new bridge and connecting paths are now open.”“The concrete path now reaches from the Exhibition Centre carpark to the entry to the service station just north of Forge Street.

Work on the final section linking to the Sturt Highway is expected to commence in the new year.
In the city’s centre, construction of new shared paths on sections of Brookong Avenue and Edward Street has been completed, and line marking has been installed on several sections of the Central Link, including The Esplanade and Beckwith Street.
“The expansion of the network out to Forest Hill has also been forging ahead, with construction of works on several sections of this important link in the second half of this year,” Mr Creighton said.
“The Kyeamba Avenue section is almost complete, with the new blister crossing on Vincent Road installed in early December.
“The 3.3-kilometre path along the rail corridor between Bakers Lane and Elizabeth Avenue at Forest Hill has been constructed, with minor works including line marking, symbols and signage still to be installed on a small section of the path.”
The Bakers Lane section and short section of path which will link it to Mitchell Road are still to be finished and remain a construction site, while minor works are still to be completed on the path along Elizabeth Avenue.
The Forest Hill Link will be opened to traffic upon completion of the works.
The Active Travel Plan project is jointly funded by the NSW Government and Wagga Wagga City Council.
