The NSW EPA have mandated Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) recycling to reduce the amount of food waste going to landfill. The FOGO mandates aim to divert food and garden waste from landfills, promoting sustainable waste management practices in New South Wales.

Local Councils are therefore mandated to provide FOGO services to premises that currently receive a residual waste collection (red lid bins) by July 1, 2030.

Council is preparing for its next kerbside contract to commence in 2027/28 and is looking to consider whether adding rural townships into the new contract is a viable option. The new contract will be a 10-year term, which means this period of consultation will be the only opportunity to address or request changes prior to the new contract commencing.

If kerbside collection services were introduced, appropriate arrangements for bin locations would need to be established for safe collection by the contractor. This could involve bins being brought to a central location (e.g. main road) for collection.

If only a small number of residents provide input, the results may not reflect the true needs of the community. This could mean missing out on a service that would benefit many households.
