Overview

Council is delivering key upgrades to the Wagga Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre (LMC) – Australia’s leading livestock selling centre for cattle, sheep and lambs.

Located in Bomen and operating since 1979, the LMC is considered the largest saleyard in the southern hemisphere. It regularly attracts a wide range of livestock buyers from across NSW and Victoria.

These works will align with the current Livestock Marketing Centre Strategic Masterplan while also supporting the goals of the future LMC Masterplan and Strategy, which is currently in development.

Design and construction of the planned upgrades, according to this strategy, will ensure the Centre continues to grow and meet the needs of the industry as they evolve.

Planned Upgrades

Planned upgrades are currently set to include:

  • Realignment of cattle delivery ramps and sheep draft ramps;
  • Installation of a generator and automatic transfer switch to support new electronic ID (eID) requirements;
  • Integration with the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) to ensure accurate tracking of sheep and farmed goats from property to sale;
  • A full refurbishment of the LMC canteen, including:

- Replacement of catering equipment, furniture and blinds
- Painting and deep cleaning of the space

These upgrades are designed to future-proof the Centre - boosting efficiency, meeting industry requirements, and improving comfort for users - while equally supporting the LMC's ongoing role as a competitive, high-performing livestock market.
