Overview

Council is planning to strengthen and refresh the Lake Albert precinct with a remediation of the foreshore, and installation of a 6.2km pipeline from the Murrumbidgee River to the lake.

Lakeside construction will include a revitalisation of both the weir and 2.7km of foreshore to prevent long-term erosion, while the new pipeline will provide inflows from the Murrumbidgee River. Overall, this new suite of infrastructure will refresh and increase the volume and quality of the lake water.

Once complete, the Lake Albert Pipeline and Precinct Renewal project will play a key role in supporting this rejuvenated recreational space for residents and visitors, enhancing lakeside living and boosting social, environmental, business, and tourism benefits for Wagga Wagga.

Project Delivery

The project will be delivered in multiple stages, according to a schedule of works which best utilises seasonal variations in the lake's average water levels.

  • Stage 1: Remediation of the Lake Albert Foreshore. These works will ideally be completed when water levels in the lake are slightly lower, and are designed to facilitate repairs to areas affected by erosion and collapse. Additional works to refresh the stormwater infrastructure surrounding the lake, will also be undertaken during this stage.
  • Stage 2: Installation of the pipeline to connect Lake Albert with the Murrumbidgee River. The pipeline is designed to help facilitate a more consistent standard of water quality and water levels in the lake.

In addition to the above works, key works will also be undertaken to replace the weir. These upgrades are designed to improve long-term efficiency in overall water management. The weir replacement will occur as part of the overall project delivery schedule.

All construction is undertaken as weather and contractor availability permits.
