Overview

Lake Albert dog park in O'Halloran Park is regularly visited by local residents who want a place to let their pets off-leash in close proximity to the lake, but the facility has been ageing and is in need of a refresh.

Council has received a number of requests from the public over the past couple of years to have the dog park and agility track upgraded as it has not had any renewals for more than a decade.

Council has now launched a project to upgrade the park to bring it up to a relevant standard. Works are schedule to commence on Monday 14 October, and will take around two months to complete, weather permitting.

Scope of works

Council believes off-leash areas across the city are an important part of community life, providing an open space where our pets can exercise and socialise with other dogs and pet owners.

The redevelopment of the dog park in O'Halloran Park, at the northern end of Lake Albert, aims to refresh the existing agility equipment and upgrade other parts of the facility, such as the fencing and gates, as well as providing additional infrastructure and landscaping for the benefit of pets and their owners.

The upgrade works will include:

  • Repainting existing agility equipment
  • New fencing
  • Double gates to enter / leave the park
  • A cantilever shelter and picnic seating
  • Landscape rock seats
  • Seat on concrete pad
  • Bubbler
  • Irrigation and turf inside the dog park
  • Concrete access path from carpark

During the works, the dog park will be closed and access to the area immediately surrounding the facility will also be restricted when the new fencing, path and turf are being installed.

It is estimated the upgrade will cost $85,000, funded through Council’s Strategic Recreation Renewal Budget.
