Exhibition period now closed
Thank you to the residents, industry and community organisations who shared their feedback during the community engagement period from Monday 30 June to Friday 1 August, 2025.
We will now review all submissions, survey responses and feedback gathered from the community drop-in sessions, pop-up events and industry workshops. This input will help shape updates to both draft documents, where relevant.
A report will be presented to Council with these updates, targeting adoption of the Local Housing Strategy by the end of 2025.
The draft IAHP will be transitioned to an Affordable Housing Strategy. This strategy will provide clear direction to Council, community, and industry on social and affordable housing in Wagga Wagga. The timeframe for delivery of this project is within the 0-5 year timeframe (2025-2030), as identified in the draft LHS.

Have your say on the draft Local Housing Strategy
Wagga Wagga's population is growing and changing. By 2041, the population is forecast to grow by approximately 9,000 people. We need an additional 5,000 dwellings to house our future population growth. To prepare for this, Council prepared the draft Wagga Wagga Local Housing Strategy, to guide housing supply, demand, diversity, affordability and location over the next 15 years.
There are four objectives for housing identified in the Wagga Wagga Local Housing Strategy:
- Affordability - housing is affordable for everyone.
- Suitability - the location, size and type of housing in Wagga Wagga meets the needs of our community at every life stage.
- Sequencing - high-amenity housing is provided in the right locations, serviced by community, social and physical infrastructure.
- Design & adaptability - housing is designed to be high-quality, adaptable, responsive and resilient, transitioning us to the future.
Once adopted, the Wagga Wagga Local Housing Strategy will be used by Council to influence the type of housing that is built and where it is built.
Council has also prepared an Interim Affordable Housing Paper
Council also recognises the growing need for social and affordable housing and has prepared the Interim Affordable Housing Paper. The Interim Affordable Housing Paper identifies factors leading to demand for social and affordable housing in Wagga, and existing approaches at the Federal, State and Local Government levels.
Importantly, the draft Interim Affordable Housing Paper provides options for Council to consider moving forward. This includes options for advocacy, partnerships, collaboration, statutory mechanisms, and direct intervention.
