Upgrades on track at Gregadoo Waste Management Centre

27 August 2025

Works to renew the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre are progressing effectively, with multiple projects reaching key milestones in recent weeks.

Waste Cell Extension
Excavation and base works are now complete, and both protective liners (the Geosynthetic Clay Liner and the HDPE liner) have been successfully installed. Before moving into the next stage of construction, some remediation works are also required in the existing cell.

Council is awaiting final design confirmation, and in the meantime is working to source relevant materials so construction can continue without delay once approval is given. It is estimated that the cell extension will be finalised around late September 2025.

Road Rehabilitation
Works on the northern shoulder of the Access Road are now complete. Due to softer ground being discovered on the southern shoulder during the road rehabilitation process, a geotechnical inspection was also undertaken.

Strengthening works informed by the results of that inspection are now underway to bring this section of the road up to the required standard, and it is estimated that overall delivery of the road rehabilitation project will be complete in approximately late September 2025.

Plant Shed
The building pad for the new plant shed has now been prepared by the contractor, and final design work is almost complete. Construction is expected to begin in mid-September 2025, with an estimated completion timeframe of early 2026.

New Waste Cell & Monocell
Works toward the new Waste Cell and Monocell are progressing, with design and technical specifications about 80% complete, and steps being taken to tackle the environmental challenges currently affecting the commencement of the project.

Unlike a standard waste cell, a Monocell is built to safely store high-risk materials such as bonded asbestos, contaminated soils, and processed waste. These materials come from various sources and require careful handling in a purpose-built facility designed specifically for their safe disposal.

The archaeological survey has been completed, and Council is now awaiting the results and reports. An application, supported by environmental assessments, has been lodged with the NSW Planning Secretary, and Council is waiting for confirmation from their office.

A construction and delivery timeframe will be set once planning approval is received.

Please note that all works - including those listed above - are undertaken and deliverable as weather conditions and contractor availability permit.
